Project overview

The Ministry of  Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning  MOWMAUP has an on-going policy to construct and improve the roads and highways network for the Kingdom of Bahrain.

In this regard, Egis International has been awarded a Pre-consultancy services agreement to Widen and improve the existing Sheikh Khalifa Bin Salman Highway to cater the future traffic by the year 2030, generated by the development plans in surrounding areas and the rapid increase in traffic.

Sheikh Khalifa Bin Salman Highway, known as SKBS Highway is a dual carriageway with an average number of 3 lanes along approximately 24 km extending from Al Farooq Interchange in the North up to Zallaq interchange south, next to Bahrain University. The main goal of the project is to upgrade the existing highway to accommodate the future traffic resulting from residential and network development schemes by:

  • widening to 4 or 5 lanes whenever needed
  • increasing road capacity & improving the Level of Service

  • Stage IV: Approval of Concept Plan
